CARL SPAMER BENCKERT 
(Age 85)  

Of Louisa, VA, formerly of Springfield, VA and Ft. Pierce, FL, Carl went to be with the Lord and all his loved ones that went before him on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Richmond, VA. Carl left behind two children, Julie Bohn and David Benckert; daughter-in-law, Kathy, three grandchildren, Korie Young, Megan Benckert and Tyler Benckert; a brother, George Benckert and a sister, Audrey Deane. Carl grew up in South Arlington, VA, graduating from Washington and Lee High School before enlisting in the Navy. Carl served his country in the Navy during WWII. He retired to Florida after a career at the U.S. Naval Observatory. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Sauls Benckert and second wife, Eloise P. Benckert. He loved the outdoors and being with his fellow members of the Virginia Archery and Rifle Club outside of Woodstock, VA. Carl was loved by all that knew him, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA on Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m., where funeral service will be held on Monday at 12 Noon.
